The Kiln

Here is my kiln, Little Bertha.  It is a 90 cubic foot, downdraft, flat-top design, that I built myself over the winter of '96-'97.  I built it using my friend Steve Becker's kiln as a model, 120 cubic foot Big Bertha.  The power source is from two 400,000 Btu forced air burners.  The walls are made of ceramic fiber, some of which is pre-made bundles, and some I salvaged from another kiln.  I fire to cone 11 (over 2400° F.) in about 10 to 12 hours, in a reduction firing atmosphere.
